This Mini Journal was created as an Elizabeth Craft Designs Design Team project.

I created the Notebook Fragments Mini Journal using products from the new Elizabeth Craft Designs - Beautifully Worn - collection in the Art Journal Specials series. The project combines layered details, vintage-inspired elements and a soft, worn colour palette.

The new Notebook Fragments die set was the starting point for this mini journal. The fragment backgrounds were created with spray inks and stamped details before being layered with images from the Journal Ephemera 2 book. The result is a mini journal filled with texture, detail and character.

Process

I started by creating several backgrounds on ECD Soft Finish Cardstock using Distress Spray Stains. Once the spray inks were completely dry, I die-cut the Notebook Fragments.

I like to back the fragments with leftover cardstock or paper scraps to make them sturdier. For this project, I used 200gsm Kraft Cardstock. To finish the fragments, I added stamped details with VersaFine Clair inks and inked the edges with Scorched Timber, Distress ink for a more defined, dramatic look.

Next, I started creating the elements for the journal. I cut out images from the Journal Ephemera 2 book and stamped additional images onto ECD Soft Finish Cardstock. The stamped images were coloured with Distress Watercolor Pencils. All the edges were inked.

I arranged the elements into clusters and layered everything onto the Notebook Fragments. Finally, I added splatters with diluted white acrylic paint and finished the pieces with Distress Spritz splashes.

The final step was assembling all the fragments onto a book ring to complete the mini journal. You can watch a full flip-through of the finished journal on my Instagram and Facebook pages.

Final Thoughts

The Notebook Fragments die set offers so many creative possibilities, and I’m sure this won’t be my last project with it. I hope you’ve enjoyed taking a closer look at this mini journal.
